MAX 2012

by
“After a week of rain and drizzle the weekend was looking like a beauty, and it was, 30degrees and a slight breeze made the 3rd Murray Auto Extravaganza (MAX) a corker of a day out.
This is the first time I’ve made it to the event, as holidays up the coast have meant I missed what’s on in Perth, but not this year!! I ended up getting there late as the car decided to blow a radiator hose while refueling in Mandurah, luckily the Repco store was nearby and they helped me find a replacement hose for the Dodge (wont say which blue brand I had to use).
Arriving a tad after 9:30am saw the place pretty full already and soon found a spot at the fence line, nice. Now to break out the camera and start clickin’.
First off I must say that the organisers had it pretty much down pat, with trade stalls/food vendors handy and everything in its place. Plus at most static shows you don’t get the variety they had from model trucks to a Dyno running most of the day. It just seemed laid back and relaxing, definitely going again next year!
Now, the show also incorporated the Van Nationals this year, as it spends Easter in a different State each year, and this year we were lucky to have it, damn I love a good van (as owning a few Beddys in the past) I should get my ole Beddy ready for next year in Caboolture!A few people had made the trek from the East to attend, and with the local crowd it made an awesome showing off what vans were like back in the day. As well a few of the newer types (a couple of Nissan Elgrands, a Hyundai iLoad, plus a late model Transit with a V6 conversion) I can see a resurgence in the van scene again, with the room inside and a blank panel down each side why wouldn’t you? There were a few clubs participating this year as well, like the Monaro Club, the Ford Club plus ProUte’s and Dogman Club, making sure they got the members to make it a full show. That coupled with some of the Harley’s from Fraser’s and some other really nice bikes, it was a great mix. If the big stuff was a tad too boring (and static) then the guys from West Coast R/C trucks (bigrigswa.com) were over on the basketball court (nth side), had their awesome remote controlled models driving around the court showing what a big rig r/c can do. When you see the detail and the pulling power these things have, plus the amount you can upgrade (like full metal g’boxes) then I can see a few people will be interested in adding a big rig to their collection! All up the event was a success, having the usual displays plus the added van Nat’s as well as the Dyno running I think it was up there with anything on in WA, and I heard next year may even have some full-size show trucks (ssshh don’t tell anyone yet) I hope to have some company with me so I can relax a bit more and enjoy meeting more folks to laugh with!

See ya soon, Dodgee.
(ps: the guys have another show in Mandurah in a couple of weeks) I like living down this end ; )
