After covering this even the last time it was here, we were sure to book our accommodation and make the 2 hour trip to the town of collie to watch hundreds of cars smash tires on the track and in the burnout pad, we arrived in town at around 2pm and went down to the Collie Motorplex where the event was taking place to sign in and have a sticky beak at what was already there.
Some tough looking cars were already up on jacks and getting ready for the killer weekend that was in stall for them, while we were there more and more cars were rocking up on trailors and semi trucks (one of them had all the cars from over east on it that was a sight to see!!)
The event hosted a show and shine, cruise the track, power skid competition, a go to whoa and the burnout sessions, with a few demo skids on the main straight by Gary Myers himself, there was certainly an abundance of stuff we could shoot throughout the day and this time subway, chicken treat and eagle boys were on hand for munchies in-between, and the prices were too bad!
Some of the highlights of the weekend were fire! , we captured plenty of cars on fire in the burnout pad , one being a commodore that went up in flames in the middle of his skid , UCSMOKE was another contender that caught fire mid skid and ballooned his fuel cell in the boot ,what a sight! , a few of the competitors tagged the tire wall as well while impressing the massive crowd, Fred Watsons ‘FEAR’, was one of them taking a massive hit to the rear quaterpanel aswell as Debbie Benedetto’s “Andromeda ‘taking a hit to the back/rear quarter during mid skid, “the pad was very slippery “compared to the Perth Motorplex pad she told us when we were having a chat after the skid show.
The Super skid sessions were pretty amazing to see as well , Gary got the mustang out there and did a few for show along with the other competitors , one competitors wheel came off mid skid and cruised straight towards us , that was certainly interesting!
A great weekend, a great show and event and we will be looking forward to next years!
