Drift Practice – 4th June 2012

by

Having a Monday off work is always a treat, and what better way to spend that Monday off by sliding cars sideways and burning some rubber?  Autolife went down to check out and support our local drifters at Barbagallo’s drift practice day and had a blast doing so.

Like any other typical drift day, today featured a large number of Japanese Import favourites such as Toyota Chasers and AE86s, Nissan Skylines, Mazda RX7s and a comprehensive assortment of various model Nissan Silvias.  It was nice to see some other cars such as the brown KE70 Corolla and a couple of Aussie Utes turn heads as they too played a part in the drifting mix.

All entrants were classed into 3 groups, which separated the seasoned veterans from the intermediates and rookies.  Group A as always put on an impressive show of skill and style.  Group B and C, although not as experienced, managed to dazzle spectators as they quite quickly sharpened their skills over the day.

Some cars such as the turquoise number 51 S14 Silvia were seen trying to execute reverse entry drifts into corners, which is possibly just a teaser of what to expect once the WA practice rounds are done.

Just as the practice session began to wind down, people were all surprised by the number 56 S15 Silvia whipping out a crazy 360 degree handbrake spin on the straight before entering the ‘Cat Corner’ with a flawless faint drift – A show stopping finish to a great day.

The next WA Drift practice will be held at night on the 6th of July 2012 at Barbagallo Raceway.
